The Exhibition “Canova and the Antiquity” in Naples, will be the mirrow of one of the most famous neoclassical sculptors, Antonio Canova.

Canova invented the Antiquity again!
This unique Exhibition is called: “Canova and Antiquity”. The goal is to compare rare sculptures of roman and greek masters with the unique “moderen” art of Canova (1757-1822).
Antonio Canova was born on the 1st of November in 1757 in Possagno (Treviso/Italy). His father died, when he was four. His grandfather, Pasino Canova, brought him up. Thanks to his sacrifice, Antonio passed his apprenticeship in Venice, with his master and friend Simone Meoni. In 1791 he moved finely to Rome/Italy, where he got realized and where he spent his entire life. He traveled as well his lifelong increasing his horizon and cultivateing the conection to his birthplace: Possagno/Italy.
Master Canova in Naples:
In 1780 Antonio Canova enjoys some time in Naples, Paestum and Pompeii. Like all aristocrates and men of fine Art, he joined the “Grand Tour” to admire the High lights of the Bay of Naples. Therefore he became impressed by the frescos of Herculaneum, Pompeii and the National Museum of Archeology.
