What’s up with Pompeii and the Greeks in a roman ancient city by the special exhibition?
The dating of the foundation of Pompeii was in the end of the 7th century BC. The Tuscans and later on the Samnite’s (population of the near Apennin-mountains) had a certain influence of the culture and art of Pompeii. Close to Pompeii saddled another prolife population: The Greeks of Euboea lived in Cumae (in front of Naples/Italy) and speared their business, traditions and religion.
Special exhibition: Pompeii and the Greeks
That’s why the exhibition “Pompeii and the Greeks” becomes a trip in history, culture and art. Their history is related to the time long before the famous eruption of Mt. Vesuvius destroyed Pompeii. Greek Philosophies, Tradition and Faith influenced the cities costume. Pompeii developed to a meeting spot of “Globetrotters”. Various nations lived peaceful together. Prolific aristocratic families lived in Pompeii and collected Greek art-objects, discussed literature of the Peloponnese and performed the “Otium”, the pleasure of intellect and release. Emperor Augustus Octavius pretended to practice Latin and Greek as language and culture. It was a matter of good taste.
